After making remarks that many felt belittled the holders of council house mortgages, Tory leader David Cameron has been called on the carpet. The incident occurred during a dinner party when Cameron’s 4 year older came downstairs. He allegedly stated, “You look like you’ve fallen out of a council flat,” sparking the outrage. Although he initially denied making the statement, a source who was at the party stated “The expression was, ‘You look like you’ve fallen out of a council flat’.” Later, asked to confirm the quote, he stated: “That’s pretty, uhm, on the money there.”
Cameron was behind legislation several years ago to help council house mortgages become more accessible to tenants to encourage them towards home ownership. Originally, he illustrated the enormous gap between home owners such as himself and those who hold council house mortgages. Strategists later advised him to play down his wealth, since it alienated voters.
The alleged remarks are still being denied by the Cameron camp, and he’s already in enough trouble after breaking numerous traffic laws. Other Tory members have indicated that it is unlikely he made the nasty remark, but many believe that the information is true.
