The smarter guide to council house mortgages

Difficulties Continue for Council House Mortgage Holders

Council House mortgage holders are having increasing problems with their mortgages and many are wondering just how far the issue is going to go before the government steps in with assistance. It’s not just council house mortgages that are having difficulties, but a lot of the media focus has turned to this issue.MP David Hanson said: “I’m concerned about anybody who is having any difficulties in paying their mortgage in the current situation. Mortgage rates remain lower than in the past but I recognise that there are still people who are finding it difficult. We need to give out strong advice and the government is looking into how it can ensure that people’s homes are not repossessed, because this is a great concern.”Sian Mather, manager of Legal Services Commission services at CAB in Flintshire, said: “If you are in mortgage arrears, your mortgage lender will want you to clear them. If you don’t do this, they will take action through the courts to get you evicted from your home. This will allow them to sell the property and use the money from the sale to help pay off the debt. However, if your lender knows that you are trying your best to stop the debt increasing, they might allow you more time to sort the problem out.”
